Sonya Massey: Did Sean Grayson Know?

A look at the final moments of Sonya Massey, Sean Grayson’s actions, and the spiritual questions surrounding her death.

Sonya Massey v. Sean Grayson

“I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.”

It's not an unheard-of statement. A lot of African Americans say this when there is a threat present, when something doesn’t sit well with our spirit, or when someone says something that makes us say, WTF?

“Getting away from your hot steaming water.”

It can be implied that Sonya Massey found Grayson’s partner's statement absurd. It does seem so, being that she called them for help, and they started treating her like a threat. If you listen to her statement as she removes the pot of boiling water from her stove, you can hear how ridiculous she felt his reply was. Us Black People have a certain cadence with sarcasm that's hard for a lot of people to understand.

“Oh, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.”

Massey's response seemed to have activated the thirst for blood in Officer Grayson. That man immediately drew his weapon and threatened to shoot. All cadence barrier aside, energy is constant and does not lie.

Just before Massey was asked to check on the pot of boiling water, Officer Grayson can be seen pointing to his partner, whose name wasn't released for a while, like he was cuing something that had already been planned. Massey can also be seen looking at Grayson and then at his partner, implying that she saw the signal.

As Massey removes the pot from the stove, Officer Grayson is seen staring at her in an almost trance-like state. He doesn't move a muscle for several seconds.

“You doing alright mentally?”

Grayson asked Massey about her mental state almost as soon as he arrived on scene. “Yes, I took my medicine and stuff.”

It has been reported that Massey suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, a condition that affects the way the mind perceives reality, which could have been the reason for her call to 911.

Grayson was familiar with Massey and her condition because he had been called to her before.

What If They Aren’t Crazy?

A lot of times, when someone is suffering from a spiritual attack, they’re written off as crazy and quickly medicated to contain what their mind perceives as reality.

Still from the television series Evil, illustrating the article’s discussion of spirituality and supernatural experiences.

But what if they aren’t crazy? People who suffer from schizophrenia are said to live in different dimensions. It's said that they have an inside view of another world, and just because we can’t see what they see, it’s easy to disregard their truth.

If you pay close attention to Officer Grayson’s body language and his sudden energy shift, you might get an odd feeling, like a switch flipped and he suddenly turned cold. Unless you believe his attack was planned before he got there, there is no other explanation for this woman to have met death after a call for help.

“You better f***** not. I swear to God, I’ll shoot you right in the f***** face.”

Ex-Officer Sean Grayson of the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department

Not only did he murder Sonya Massey in cold blood, but he also neglected to render aid because he shot her in the face and knew that his shot was fatal. Grayson justified his actions of killing Sonya by stating,

“The bitch is fucking crazy.”

Track back to my question, “Did Grayson know?”

717

The word know is used in 717 verses in the King James Bible. Sean Grayson’s arrest date is 7:17.

The word know is used the most in Ezekiel (84 times). The story of Ezekiel is recorded as visions of revelations that he received from the Lord...

Satan has been reported to be the first person to use the word know.

In the Greek dictionary, entry 717 is Armageddon, and as we all know, Armageddon is the last battle between good and evil.

In Revelation, the number 717 is said to offer kind words to those who repent and remain faithful in troubling times. If Officer Sean Grayson was, in fact, an evil entity in Massey’s dark world, her words, “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus,” could have set him off.

Now, Let’s Dive Into His Inmate ID Number: 139977

The number 13 symbolizes rebellion and lawlessness in the Bible.

The number 13 represents man-made governments inspired by Satan.

“Psalm 99 was written between 1010 and 970 B.C. by priests who served under King David. It is part of a group, from Psalm 90 to 106, which centers around the Millennial reign of Jesus and the regathering of Israel. This song joyously proclaims that the Lord will reign over the earth and calls upon all humans to worship him.”

Sonya Massey says, “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus."

The Greek word Aima appears 99 times in the Bible. Aima refers to the blood of humans or animals.

The number 77 refers to Noah and the great flood. It also ties to Lamech, who used the number 77 to argue for his innocence after murdering a man. He claimed it was self-defense, but he was very arrogant about it.

Sonya Massey celebrates her graduation alongside her child in a joyful family moment.

A Light on the Path

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path”.

In the background of this photo, someone (or something) is draped in a white coverall.

The color yellow symbolizes caution. It’s closely related to the color gold, which represents spiritual truths and God’s presence.

Could Sonya Massey Have Been Targeted?

Was she targeted because of her spiritual enlightenment? Was Officer Sean Grayson an entity sent by Satan? There has been talk that he has ties to the KKK, so it is very possible....

Update: What Happened to Sean Grayson?

Since this article was originally written, the criminal case against former Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson has reached a verdict.

In October 2025, Grayson was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Sonya Massey. He had originally faced first-degree murder charges, but the jury ultimately convicted him on the lesser charge.

On January 29, 2026, Grayson was sentenced to the maximum 20 years in prison for the second-degree murder conviction. His defense had asked the court for leniency, citing his medical condition, but the judge imposed the maximum sentence.

The case did not end there. In July 2026, the Illinois Prisoner Review Board unanimously denied Grayson’s request for early medical release.

Sonya Massey’s family also received a $10 million settlement from Sangamon County in connection with her death.

Whatever conclusions a person reaches about the spiritual questions surrounding Sonya Massey’s final moments, the legal outcome is now clear: Sean Grayson was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
